Baju Kurung Moden
The Story
Baju Kurung Moden
The kurung you grew up with, cut a little closer and finished a little cleaner. Our baju kurung moden comes in songket bunga tabur, dyed brocade and breathable cotton — in sizes XS to 3XL, with cash on delivery.
Moden Is a Way of Cutting, Not a Costume
Put a baju kurung moden next to a traditional one and the difference isn't the fabric or the colour. It's the cut. The modern version follows the body instead of falling straight from the shoulders, and it usually drops the side panels that give a traditional kurung its volume. It first took off in the early 1980s, when Malaysian designers began borrowing Western tailoring, and it has been the everyday kurung ever since.

How to Read a Baju Kurung Moden Design
Product names can be confusing. These are the details worth looking for when you compare designs:
Neckline. Round neck is the classic. A V-neck with a hook, or a small front slit, makes it easier to wear with a brooch or tudung.
Sleeves (lengan). Long straight sleeves look most formal. Puff shoulders (lengan puff) add structure in photos, and bell sleeves (tangan kembang) soften the look.
Back. A back zip and a shaped "backside cut" are what give a moden top its fitted line without pulling across the chest.
Skirt (kain). Kain kembang (A-line) gives easy movement. Duyung or fishtail is dressier. Lipat depan (a front fold) keeps a traditional touch.
Wuduk-friendly sleeves. Zips or openings at the cuffs let you take wuduk without rolling your sleeves up. We mark these designs clearly on each product page.
Our Latest Baju Kurung Moden Designs, Fabric by Fabric
Songket Bunga Tabur — Himani and Ardina
Bunga tabur means scattered flowers: small songket motifs spread across the whole fabric instead of a single heavy border. It gives a baju kurung moden songket the shine of a festive piece without looking stiff. Himani comes in a regular fit with a 34" top, in eight colourways, from Magenta Silver and Emerald Green Silver to Red Chilli Gold and Black Gold.
Dyed Brocade — Serra, Myra and Rabai
Brocade gives you structure and a soft sheen. Serra is our standout: a dyed brocade with a woven border along one side, in nine shades including baby blue, burgundy, light grey and off-white. Myra and Rabai bring the same occasion-ready feel in deeper tones.
Cotton Plain — Kuntum
For office days and long weekends. Kuntum is a slim-fit cotton kurung moden with a 36" top, puff shoulders, a round neck, a back zip and wuduk-friendly sleeves. It comes in eleven shades, from pearl white and nude to dusty blue and mustard, so it is easy to pair with a printed tudung.
Moden Meets the Regional Cuts
"Moden" isn't only one style. It's an approach that can be applied to almost any kurung:
Baju kurung Kedah moden keeps the short, hip-length Kedah top but gives it a neater fit and modern fabrics. → Kurung Kedah
Baju kurung Pahang moden and Riau moden keep the longer top and collar of the Riau-Pahang style, with a slimmer, more structured line. → Kurung Pahang & Riau
Baju kurung moden pendek is any moden top cut shorter, around the hip. It is lighter and more casual, and the Kedah cut is the best-known version.
How to Style It
With kain batik. Swap the matching skirt for a batik kain and a plain moden top suddenly feels fresh. Cotton designs like Kuntum work especially well this way.
With a tudung. Keep the tudung plain when the kurung is songket or brocade, and add pattern when the kurung is plain. An instant shawl keeps the neckline neat. → Instant Hijab
For Raya and majlis. Metallic songket and brocade photograph best. Baby blue, burgundy and emerald have been some of the most asked-for shades in recent seasons. → Baju Raya
Before You Order — Fit Notes
Slim-fit or regular? Slim-fit designs like Kuntum follow the body closely. If you're between sizes or prefer room to move, size up or choose a regular-fit design like Himani.
Sizes. Most designs run XS to 2XL, and selected designs such as Myra go up to 3XL. Check the size chart on each product page.
