Tudung Shawl
The Story
Tudung Shawl
A bawal gives you structure. A tudung shawl gives you freedom. With one long rectangle of fabric, you decide how it falls: a quick loop for the office, a full drape over the chest for prayer and kenduri, or soft layers for a wedding. It’s the most versatile hijab you can own, and once you know a few simple drapes, it becomes the one you reach for most.
Shawl, Bawal or Instant?
Shawl. A long rectangle you wrap and pin your own way. The most styling options, from simple to formal.
Bawal. A square folded into a triangle and pinned under the chin. Neat and structured, great for everyday wear.
Instant. A piece with the shape already sewn in, ready in seconds with little or no pinning.
If you love changing your look for different occasions, choose a shawl. If you want the same neat style every day, a bawal or instant piece is quicker. Explore our Tudung Bawal and Instant Shawl collections to compare.
Fabric by Occasion
Cotton for daily wear. Breathable, matte and easy to pin, it stays put through a long, warm workday.
Chiffon for majlis. Light and floaty, it creates soft layers that move beautifully.
Satin for weddings and Raya. A gentle sheen that photographs well and pairs naturally with songket and brocade.
Crepe for a polished, everyday finish. Smooth and slightly weighted, it drapes cleanly without slipping.
Three Tudung Shawl Drapes to Start With
The everyday wrap
Pin it under the chin with one side shorter than the other. Bring the longer side around the back of the head and pin it at the opposite shoulder. Neat, quick and office-ready.
The labuh drape
Pin under the chin, then let both ends fall over the chest. Pin each side loosely at the shoulder so the fabric covers the chest fully. Ideal for prayer, kenduri and when you want more coverage.
The layered event style
Start with the everyday wrap, then bring the long end over the head once more and let it fall in soft layers at the side. Chiffon and satin work best for this look.
A fitted inner cap underneath helps every drape stay in place, especially with smoother fabrics.
Match It to Your Baju
This style shows a lot of fabric around the face, so colour matters. Choose a tonal shade for a long, elegant line, a contrasting colour to frame the face, or one colour picked from a printed baju to keep the look calm. Our hijab colours share names with our baju collections, from Maroon and Emerald Green to Dusty Pink and Pearl White. Shop Baju Kurung and Baju Kebarung to build your set.
Care Tips
Wash in cold water by hand or on a gentle cycle inside a laundry bag. Press out water instead of wringing, and dry in the shade. Iron cotton on medium heat; use low heat for chiffon and satin, ideally on the reverse side. Hang or fold loosely so long edges don’t crease.
